Miami NVC Support Group Meetings
Countless thousands of people have enjoyed inspiring, life-enrichment workshops with the founder of Nonviolent Communication, Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, only to find it's challenging to locate a Miami NVC Support Group or a Miami NVC Practice Group.
Steve Pollack facilitates ongoing free groups based on the seminal book by Dr. Rosenberg, "Nonviolent Communication: A Language for Life."
"As I read through all that Steve has written, I see someone who represents what I believe he would like to help others achieve in their own lives. Among other qualities, he is relaxed, comfortable in his own skin, knowledgeable, skilled, focused, helpful and "in the moment," regardless of what else he may have going on in his life. Communication is the key."

The "Practice Group" Model
A Miami NVC Practice Group focuses on the actual learning and practice of nonviolent communication skills. A meeting often includes a studied review of a specific chapter in Rosenberg's book. It might also include creative role plays to help someone see the real-life problem-solving possibilities in a dramatic or amusing way. An NVC Practice Group could also include specific exercises from the selected chapter, or from the companion workbook.
The "Support Group" Model
An NVC Support Group such as the Miami NVC group focuses on giving the gifts of empathy and understanding to anyone present who happens to be in need. The entire group practices the meditative stillness of mind and focused openness of heart, so that all present can be a compassionate witness of the speaker's feelings and needs. This is done without judgment, evaluation, diagnosis, criticism or blame. "Appreciative Inquiry" questions might be asked of the speaker to enhance the group's clarity of understanding. Before offering problem-solving ideas, suggestions or strategies, one first asks if the speaker is willing to hear them. Respect of individual privacy is valued highly, so nothing is shared outside the group.
"I see NVC as a pure language of love. Reading Marshall Rosenberg's book was a wonderful eye opener--it showed me how I'd learned from my culture to perceive and speak in non-compassionate ways. Practicing the language of compassion was challenging, but with help from the NVC practice group, I began to make significant changes in my everyday communication. The greatest gift comes from the quality of my relationships resulting especially from Steve's help and understanding. He is compassionate and truly models NVC clearly and effectively. I feel grateful for his inspired coaching, and to the Miami practice group for all their support. I feel very excited and hopeful when I witness the highly developed skills of people who have been practicing NVC longer than I."

A Balanced Blend of Practice and Support
Growing, developing and empowering your interpersonal communication skills is a journey. Steve Pollack's NVC groups offer a unique and potent blend of both: practicing NVC communication techniques, and practicing the giving of pure empathy. There is a built-in flexibility based on what needs are alive in the participants at the time of the meeting. Some gatherings lean more toward support while others focus more heavily on learning theory and practice exercises.
There is no charge to attend these free practice/support groups, only a request for willing contributions based on whatever value participants find in the group learning experiences.
